It’s a crazy and horrible thing but it’s true: people abuse animals in shocking numbers. And of those innocent animals being abused, about 70% are dogs. Penni the pit bull was one of those sad statistics. For more than a year, Penni was kept in the basement of a drug den in the Bronx. While there, she was physically and verbally tortured by her abusive owners until, for reasons that will never be known, she was uncermoniously dumped on the streets of New York. That’s when things went from bad to worse.
Penni was just 2-years-old when she was dumped and abandoned on the loud, chaotic streets of New York by her abusive owners. She wandered, fearful and alone, until she was picked up by animal control and taken to the pound. Sadly, because of her breed and her crippling anxiety, Pennie was immediately put on the kill list. Did she really escape her abusers only to be put down for being a pit bull?
Luckily, just in time, Penni was saved from the pound by Fur Friends In Need, an animal rescue organization that works to save abused animals in New Jersey and New York. But Penni’s fight for survival wasn’t over just yet. She still needed to be adopted or she would quickly find herself back on the list to be euthanized.
